NOT accepting appointments/privileges

i declined appointment to become an elder in two different congregations.

boy, was the elder body and co not happy about that!.

have any of you done so for any appointments (elder, ms, special pioneer)?

If you have been attending most of your life from a young age and dont make MS by say mid 20's, then your life tends to crowd out the possibility of enough service (WTS rules) as wives and kids take your time. The Elders then tend to see you as weak, and not recommendable. When I was young I guess I craved the position or title, but soon after I couldnt have allowed myself to be a part of the congregations politics, with all the MS' seeing what asignments they got and boasting about it. I'm certain I would hold back to not allow them to recommend me, as I dont know if I would have been able to say no, as others have said it seems a sin to say no at the time.

i think this is the best psychiatric forum for xjws anywhere, kinda like my own personal shrink!.

I'd say a deffinite yes for me! To read other experiences, to talk and comment on the issue's that affect us, to see new ones come along and the pain they feel that we all have and still do and yet know that people grow here, and realise there are so many genuine people here. Yes its a good place to be, and its something that deserves recognition, good topic Ian!

we posted on earlier threads the letter we sent to the judicial committee as well as letters we sent to our jw friends.

we sent those letters to 43 folks/couples on monday.

we have begun receiving replies.

I missed your original post, so had to look back and get up to speed. I have to say I like the way you have handled this difficult situation, while trying to come to terms with it yourself and to deal with people in so called authority who can't think for themselves because loyalty to the Organisation is paramount, is no easy feat.

Remember the Written Review

what exactly was the purpose of the written review?

it was extremely helpful that the society warned you on the calendars which night you had to skip... we had those boards that they passed out so you had a good writing surface, often covered with witness grafiti like, jesus or jehovah or something biblical.

remember the little grading sheet on the back; excellent, very good, good -- was there a poor?

remember when it was popularly referred to as the 'Rotten Review".

The world over lol. I actually enjoyed a break from the norm, but i'd have to put my hand up to get a sheet and pen as i'd not checked it was the written review night!

Usually got a little over half right, and rarely finished in time.

i know we've heard a lot of horror stories about jcs and getting disfellowshipped.........................but what is your experiences of continuing going to the meetings to be reinstated.............what did it really feel like?.

did you mind being ignored or did you understand it and take it on the chin?.................................what were your familys treatment of you during the period of having to sit on the back row????.

when i saw ppl comming in late and leaving early .....................i just knew it was wrong, wrong , wrong to treat ppl that way.. in fact i got told off for smiling at a sister who i knew genuinly wanted to come back,( the pos wife told me ) i did it out of human feelings and was then blasted.. after she got reinstated, i was the first person she came upto and introduced herself.

I have to admit I was one of those who looked down upon a dfd person - I feel so awful for doing that now. The congregation is set up to see anyone judged by the local elders (imperfect men) in their secret court, to be so cold and unloving to them, and yet thats the complete opposite to Jesus way of dealing with people. The real answer is that these dfd ones could have done some reseach and become dangerous to the WTS, so if any return after being completely humiliated, presumably they are completely under the control of the society again. For those I shunned and looked down upon when I was a 'yes' man, i'm so sorry...

How deep did you search to finally quit being a JW?

in my case, i never did much research or read alot of apostate literature to get out of the jw religion.

all i looked at was their heart and how they treated me.

that alone spoke for itself..

It took me a good while before I allowed myself to do proper research, I had already left and the reason was I became so unhappy in it, I realised if there was a paradise (something I could never see in the Bible) I would never make it, and with a heavy heart full of guilt I left. I made sense of the way I felt and the things I didnt agree with by doing the research.

Will You React With Prejudice?

will you react with prejudice when faced with "absolute truth?

sometimes, an irrefutable "truth" can be spoken.

and yet, this statement or fact of "truth" can be glossed over or dismissed or not recognized by the community at large, because of preconceived ideas taught us and engrained in us, from our previous upbringing or training.

This doesn't sound like an apologist, rather someone who respects the Bible, afterall he is saying that the WTS have got the woman mentioned in Genesis as the heavenly organisation (dont they love to promote organisations!) where as this person is saying it refers to Eve and her offspring - I actually found it to be quite an enjoyable read. Although I place no faith in the Bible I still find it of interest considering being involved in the witnesses for so long!

My Whole Life Seems Like A Fabrication

i'm brand new here but have been reading for months.

my sincere thanks to those who have come before me, shown me that i'm not alone, that i'm not nuts and not a loser.

i was raised a hoho, pioneered my best years away, i married a nice brother, my dad was an elder, one or of both my parents have been pioneers for 30 years+, we hosted bethel speakers and gb members in our home, my parents have had numerous circuit ass.

Enjoyed reading your post, I can hear your anger, many of us experience that feeling, that you wasted so much of your life - made choices based on human thinking purported to have been gods words - the injustice of being shunned - learning the real truth about it. Its part of the long process to recovery, i've had times where the anger leaves me and I think i've turned a corner, only for something to happen and more of it surfaces. As far a family are concerned, you have to try and put yourself back to where you were once like them to understand it, and although it is so clear to you now, they are still so far removed from seeing whats right under their noses - all they have to do is read the Bible, and yet the constant 'spiritual food' they take in clouds that out. I can only think of one analogy to that discription of spiritual food and thats supersize me, the documentary about eating junk food for an extended period, and how bad it was.
